Scotland and Sudoku

Well. we're back from Scotland and the weather sure is different here in NJ. The weather was delightfully cool, although sometimes a little damp, during our two weeks in the Highlands. I was glad that I had packed that extra sweater!!!

Although not usually associated with Scotland, I discovered Sudoku puzzles (www.sudoku.com) while I was there. They appear daily in all the UK newspapers, right next to the crossword puzzle! Has anyone else ever heard of these things? They are great entertainment for airports and long plane flights!

**&#% August

This is no big news, but it has been very sultry and unpleasant in our hometown for the past couple of weeks. We haven't been sleeping or eating well at all. Jean was in such heat-distress that he could only manage this for dinner the other day:

We sought refuge in Pennsylvania this past weekend, where we filled up on air-conditioning, fresh corn, and large helpings of pie (cherry and peach, in order of consumption.) But I'm not going to lie--it was steamy there too! Witness my attempted pic of Erv's prize project:

That's it on the right, behind the condensation on the lens. It's a fun little craft, a kind of hybrid catamaran/rowboat with a comfy padded seat and a long glide, known around Penn Lake as "Erv's Contraption."

Ready to Spelunk

Jean is newly equipped with a the Petzl Zipka headlamp, courtesy of Mom. It's a very cute, sleek little device. The headstrap is a springloaded cord that winds into the back of the lamp, making a nice, palm-sized package.

A scene from a pleasant afternoon in CB. Photos from the OK panhandle portion of our trip are on the way back from the developer. They were on my last roll of 35mm film. Shall I buy any more???

33 in '05

My spouse turns 33 today. Without having any evidence or even an anecdote, I think the palindrome years must be lucky ones. Can anyone back me up on this?

Drawers

Just wanted to share the new drawers (the tall piece) with Mom. Like them?

Astoria-to-Brooklyn Express

This is one of three chapters in the documentation of our move to Brooklyn and it is: Moving Day. I'll leave you with the impression created by the slideshow, which is that one of us did all the work and one of us played with the camera all day. Unless my spouse wants to debunk of course.

Despite our inexperience with relocating a full household (our last move was a mere station-wagon load of boxes and suitcases) the move went great. To our surprise, the whole of the packing was accomplished in about 12 hours total, and by the time the two Russians arrived with their truck on Sunday morning, we were sitting around twiddling our thumbs. Even greater surprise when we found ourselves parked in our new places, surrounded by all the boxes, in less than 4 hours. Who knew that moving was so easy??
